Annavaram

Crew - Naga family
Dated - 14th Feb 2019

We started from Chennai to Annavaram by train. We reached Annavaram station by 8 AM. By the time, the temple bus was ready. It charged 15 rupees to the main temple.
We booked a room in the down hill. All the rooms check in time will be 4.00 PM from booked date to next day 2.00 PM(22 hours).
Till the time, we completed our mundane tasks and made free darshanam and ate in the Annadanam.
Then started to the Down hill by 5.00 PM. The cottages are fine but take a print out of receipt. The cottages are not made online.
After so much struggle, took a print out of receipt and checked in to the room.
After bath, we ate in near by small hotels.
We feared that whether we need a print out for the Vratham ticket too. Nobody haven't given the proper information. The later day, we went to Devasthanam Office and try to enquire. The mediator helped to show where to get the authorized slip in case if you haven't taken print out.
They have noted down our Transaction ID, Name and Vratham type in small slip and handed over to us.
The vratham(INR - 800) took 2 hours to complete and then we are allowed in free darshanam.
We have completed all darshanams and poojas by 3 PM.

Sthalapuranam:

It is believed that the place was known for constant food distribution (free feeding) by the benevolent people of the locality and that therefore the place was called by the name Annavaram(annam means food in Telugu). Another version is that because the presiding deity of the place blesses the devotees with anina varam (pronounced or wanted boon), the place is called Annavaram.

The hillock by the side of the village is considered to be very sacred. Meruvu, the lord of the hills and his consort Menaka did great penance and begot two sons by the grace of Lord Vishnu. One was named Bhadra and the other Ratnakar. Bhadra pleased Lord Vishnu with his devotion and penance and with his grace became Bhadrachalam on which Lord Sri Rama had permanently settled. Ratnakara desired to emulate his brother and succeeded in pleasing Lord Vishnu by his penance to settle on him as Veera Venkata Satyanarayanaswamy, Ratnakara remaining as Ratnagiri (hill).
